Supreme Court suspends president of exoneration EBC appointed by Dilma
Ricardo Melo Mandate guarantee his stay in office for four years
Exoneration president sparked controversy within the EBC
The Minister of STF (Supreme Court) Dias Toffoli provisionally suspended on Thursday (2) the dismissal of journalist Ricardo Melo as chairman of the EBC (Brazil Communications Company). In the decision, the Minister assured him the term of office for which he was appointed by President Dilma Rousseff away.
The Toffoli decision goes until the Supreme Court makes a final decision on the matter. Melo was appointed a few days before the Senate vote by the temporary removal of Dilma's government. The dismissal of the journalist was signed by interim president Michel Temer, who named Laertes journalist Lima Rimoli for the position, revealing the political dispute between the PMDB and PT governments in the EBC.
Exonerated, Melo has filed an injunction in the Supreme Court alleging that Temer decision was an "arbitrary, abusive and illegal act." The defense of the journalist argues that EBC is a public company, not the state, and therefore the mandate of the president of the institution is set at four years, regardless of who assumes the government.
"It is in this public system that EBC seeks to act. And for that reason, its action must be unlinked from governments, ensuring that the tasks set by the current law be pursued independently of those who are in charge of the executive branch," he says The piece.
