Senate approves stricter punishment for gang rape crimes

Proposal is a response to the Senate case of gang rape in Rio.Project must be examined by the House of Representatives.
The Senate approved on Tuesday (31) a bill providing for stricter punishment for rape crimes committed by two or more people. The proposal, in addition to aggravate punishment, typifies the collective crime of rape that is currently not foreseen in the Brazilian Penal Code. The text will have to be examined by the House of Representatives.Currently, the crime of rape committed by someone pities scheduled from 6 to 10 years in prison. In cases of rape vulnerable when the crime is committed against a child under 14, the penalty provided is up to 15 years in prison. Their proposal, if the crime is committed by two or more persons, the penalty shall be increased by one third to two thirds, which could total up to 25 years of imprisonment in cases of rape vulnerable.
